Several residents to graduate from specialty programs at NHRMC

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – More than a dozen residents will graduate Friday from four specialty programs at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Three preliminary year residents and 17 residents have completed residencies in family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine and obstetrics/gynecology.

The residency programs are rigorous teaching programs in which doctors learn hands-on skills in their chosen specialty.

Wilmington officer finishes third in body building competition

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Sergeant Kenny McMillian with the Wilmington Police Department is not only dedicated to keeping the streets safe.  He recently finished third at the Gold’s Classic bodybuilding competition this weekend.

According to Lucy Crockett with the WPD, McMillian competed in the Masters Division at the competition held at the convention center.

The competition includes well over 100 athletes participating in various divisions and age groups.

During his training, McMillian lost 22 pounds.

WPD Lieutenant graduates from FBI National Academy

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) — Wilmington Police Lieutenant Thomas Witkowski was among the 246 law enforcement officers who graduated last week from the prestigious FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia.

The program offers a rigorous 10-week curriculum that reportedly includes advanced investigative, management and fitness training. Officers are selected to attend the National Academy based on proven records of professional success within their agencies.

Witkowski is a 21-year veteran of the WPD. He has commanded the Narcotics Enforcement Unit, been the Division III Patrol Lieutenant and is currently a Lieutenant in the Criminal Investigations Division.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) — The third annual Guns and Hoses charity softball game between the Wilmington Police Department and the Wilmington Fire Department will be held Saturday, June 18 at 5 p.m.

The show down will take place at Buck Hardee Field in Legion Stadium. Who do you think will win?

Erin Brockovich to speak at Hilton Riverside Sunday

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) — World-renowned consumer advocate and environmental activist Erin Brockovich will reportedly be the keynote speaker at the annual convention of the NC Advocates for Justice from June 18-22 at the Hilton Riverside.

Brockovich will speak on Sunday, June 19 between 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
