Wilmington City Council to meet Tuesday, 6:30 p.m.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington City Council meeting will be Tuesday, June 21 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

According to the City of Wilmington, the items of interest on the agenda include:

· Final approval of the 2011-12 budget, which includes reduced spending in the face of a continued economic downturn, but does not call for a property tax increase or layoffs.

· Resolution adopting the Market Street Corridor Plan. The plan outlines ways to make Market Street less congested and more attractive by defining what types of development can occur along the street.

· Public hearing for rezoning 50 acres of land located near the intersection of Shipyard and Independence boulevards from residential to office and institution. An office park is being proposed for the area.

· A resolution to move $400,000 in parks bond funding from the portion set aside for annexation parks to completion of the last remaining gap of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail. Once current phases under construction are complete, the trail will terminate at the edge of the Autumn Hall property. Instead of waiting for a privately constructed trail segment at some unknown date in the future, the city is proposing to build the connector segment across Autumn Hall. Completion of this section would fill the last remaining gap in the trail, providing an uninterrupted trail from John D. Barry Drive near Halyburton Park to the Wrightsville Avenue-Eastwood Road intersection.
