'Breaking Bad,' 'Walking Dead' actors take a stand at film incentives rally

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Some famous faces were among thousands who took to the streets of Wilmington to fight for the film industry Saturday afternoon.

Advocates rally to speak out against proposed cuts to early voting

Progress North Carolina joined residents in New Hanover County Monday morning to speak out against proposed bills that would restrict early voting.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Progress North Carolina joined residents in New Hanover County Monday morning to speak out against proposed bills that would restrict early voting.

House Bill 451, also known as the "Longer Lines to Vote" bill, would cut the early voting period by more than a week and eliminate Sunday voting.

Progress North Carolina held a news conference at the New Hanover Main Library Monday morning where they shared new poll results they say show 78% of North Carolina voters support early voting.

The new bill would cut early voting from 17 days to 6 (S721). Another new bill filed last week proposes removing tax exemptions for parents of college students who register to vote in the community they attend college.

Water in Greenfield Lake to be lowered to install fish escape barrier

Water in Greenfield Lake to be lowered to install fish escape barrier

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The water in Greenfield Lake will be lowered starting Friday for fish escape barrier installation, according to the City of Wilmington’s website.

Over the past few years, the city has relied on sterile carp fish to help control the growth of unwanted aquatic vegetation, including algae.

However, before any more fish can be added to the lake, the NC Wildlife Commission is requiring the city to install a fish escape barrier on the spillway near Third Street, which will prevent the escape of the fish into the Cape Fear River.
