Commissioners deny Berger's request for his own TV show

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – New Hanover County Commissioner
Brian Berger sent an email to the county's marketing department expressing
interest in having his own TV show on the county government channel, NHCTV.

Unfortunately for Berger, commissioners have shot down his
plans so he won't be getting his own program.

NHCTV provides programming to educate citizens on the
happenings of county government and its local resources. Like any other
channel, NHCTV has a set list of rules and regulations – including a rule that
states no partisan cause will be aired.

Another rule mandates that access to NHCTV for the purpose
of advocating a personal viewpoint shall generally be denied.

Currently, Chairman's Chat offers the viewpoint of the
county commissioners, and the former chairman and co-host say that's how it
should stay.

Who votes in Wilmington city elections, and who benefits

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Have you ever woken up the morning after an election and been surprised by the results? Winning candidates are often picked by a very small percentage of the population, and it's interesting to see just who shows up at the polls on election day.

Now that the dust has settled, we took a look at voter turnout during last month's election for Wilmington City Council.

Crunching the numbers and looking for trends, the candidate who seemed the best at motivating people to go to the polls was newcomer Neil Anderson. The candidate with the broadest base of support: Laura Padgett. And the person who seemed to be the biggest victim of the low turnout: former Councilman Ron Sparks.

The voter turnout for November elections was a dismal 15 percent. That's a poor showing, even by municipal election standards.
