WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A well-known developer has eyes on what many call a prime piece of real estate in downtown Wilmington.
Chuck Schoninger is looking to buy the building at 320 Chestnut Street. WECT.com is told that it would become housing for veterans.
The county owns the building, and closed it about two years ago because of water damage. It needs extensive renovations, and if no one buys the building, county leaders want to move ahead with repairs.
Schoninger hopes to put in a formal bid by the end of the week.
According to New Hanover County officials, the county also received a proposal from Chesapeake Atlantic out of Florida, which wants to renovate the address, then rent back to the county.
