NHCS student wins YWCA Young Leader award

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Sarah Clark, of New Hanover High School, has been chosen as one of three winners of the YWCA’s Cape Fear Women in Achievement Young Leader Award.  Sarah was nominated by her peers and represents the core value of the YWCA, which is to give hope for a bright, successful future for all women and their families.

Each year nominations are accepted from schools, organizations and individuals and then considered by a selection panel. Sarah and her fellow young leader nominees gave the panel much to consider when making their selection.

As a member of The Lyceum Academy of NHHS, Sarah takes nine honors courses and is a member of the Key Club, Beta Club, National Honor Society and varsity swim Team. She was awarded the Sarah Graham Keenan Library Award for her academic achievements and the school’s “Most Sportsmanship” award for helping others achieve personal goals. Sarah spends countless hours volunteering her time for causes such as Stop Hunger Now, swim-a-thons, youth church programs and the Neighborhood Family Institute for at-risk children.

Principal Chris Furr of New Hanover High School added, “NHHS is extremely proud of Sarah and her deserving Young Leader award.  She is a shining example of what NHCS students can accomplish as young leaders in their own community when they set their mind to it.”
