'Xanadu' roller skates onto a Wilmington stage
"Kira" (aka Clio) and "Sonny" share a moment in Thalian Association's production of 'Xanadu.'

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A cult classic that flopped at the box office decades ago is now seeing success on stage.

Thalian Association is opening Xanadu: the Musical, a fun take on the 1980 movie made famous by Olivia Newton-John.

It features all the same hit songs like Suddenly and Magic, and of course, there are the iconic leg warmers and roller skates warn by the lead actress.

The story follows Clio, one of nine muses, as she tries to help Sonny Malone fulfill his dream of opening a roller disco, but things get complicated when she falls in love with the mortal.

The show is full of over-the-top laughs and big dance numbers, including a final performance with almost the entire cast on skates.
