WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The middle lane of Third Street is back open, after officers temporarily closed it Wednesday night to investigate a crash.

According to police, a gray Dodge Durango ran a red light around 11:30 p.m., at the intersection of Third and Wooster Streets.

The SUV collided with another vehicle, before running off the road and slamming into a telephone pole.

The driver has been transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers on the scene tell WECT, the airbags inside the vehicle likely saved the driver's life.
