It happened at the intersection of Third and Wooster Streets. A six-inch iron pipe, aged between 60 and 80 years old, broke close to the intersection.

The water main break caused some traffic problems in that area for westbound traffic, according to Wilmington Fire Chief David Hines.

Units with the Wilmington Fire and Police Departments had blocked three of the four westbound lanes, but as of 5:00 p.m. they had hoped to have the road fixed and back open within 15 minutes.

1 checkpoint, 812 violations during 'Click it or Ticket' campaign

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Thousands of drivers and passengers were cited in North Carolina around the Thanksgiving holiday for not wearing a seatbelt.

According to State Transportation Secretary Gene Conti, more than 3,700 people were cited during the Click it or Ticket campaign, which was held Nov. 19-25.

“Multiple crashes have been reported in the news recently where motorists who were not wearing their seatbelts have been killed.  It is imperative that everyone in the car buckles up,” said Conti. “I thank all of the law enforcement agencies for their hard work reinforcing this message.”

State and local law enforcement officers issued the citations during more than 4,600 checkpoints and stepped-up patrols statewide.

Only one checkpoint was set up in New Hanover County, but a total of 812 traffic and criminal violations were written. Less than 100 people were given citations for seatbelt violations and about 30 were given DWIs.

Traffic jam: Cars stuck in parking deck for nearly an hour

Some say they were stuck in their parking space for at least 30 minutes before being able to pull out and others said it took about an hour just to leave the deck.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Downtown Wilmington was packed
Sunday evening as people lined Front Street to watch the 10th Annual
Wilmington Holiday parade.

Families left the event with smiles on their faces, pleased
with this year's floats, but those smiles turned to frustration as hundreds of
cars were trying to leave the city's downtown parking deck at the same time.

Hundreds vehicles were parked in the garage for the
event, and only one attendant was on duty to collect parking fees as cars left the deck.

Some say they were stuck in their parking space for at least
30 minutes before being able to pull out and others said it took about an hour
just to leave the deck.

Wilmington council members asked the city manager Monday to
look at the policies that could help with traffic congestion in the parking
deck.
