TRAFFIC ALERT: Overnight lane closure on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The North Carolina DOT will close one lane going in each direction on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge Sunday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 5.

The closure will take place overnight from 9pm to 5am each day.

The Bridge Maintenance Department will be working maintenance on the East and Westbound lanes.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Oleander Drive down to one lane

 

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – According to the City Wilmington website, The outer westbound lane on Oleander Driver near Oleander United Methodist will be closed  9am to 5pm Tuesday, May 21 through Friday, May 24.

City Crews are installing improvements to the stormwater drainage along the road.

Use caution and plan for delays in the area.

'Click it or Ticket' campaign celebrates 20 years

'Click it or Ticket' campaign celebrates 20 years

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Monday, May 20th marks the 20th anniversary of North Carolina DOT “Click or Ticket” campaign.

According to the press release, North Carolina was the first state to launch this safety program in 1993.

The release also states, The Click it or Ticket campaign runs through Memorial Day weekend and ends on June 2nd.  During this time officers will cite driver’s state wide who do not buckle up.

Expect delays on Independence Blvd. Saturday for OrthoWilmington 5K

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - OrthoWilmington 5k event takes place Saturday, May 18 causing some roads to close in the Wilmington area.

According to NC DOT website, Independence Blvd. from Oleander Drive to Sterling Place will be closed to drivers from 6:30am to 9:30am. Officers will be on site directing traffic. Also the right hand turning lane from Independence Blvd. to Independence Mall will be closed from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

Please use caution and plan an alternative route.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Bridge on I-40 to close Sunday

WILMINGTON,NC (WECT) - NC DOT will close the bridge located on I-40  in Castle Hayne near mile maker 414 overnight from 9:30pm to 4:30am Sunday, May 19 through Thursday May 19.

This closure is necessary so crews can replace transverse cables on the bridge.

NC DOT is asking drivers to exit at mile marker 408 to US 117 South to Holly Shelter Road to I-40 as their alternative route. Northbound traffic is reverse. Crews will have this detour marked for drivers.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Sewer repairs to cause road closures on Thursday

WILMINGTON, NC  (WECT) – Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will be making sewer repairs around Wilmington, Thursday, May 16.

The intersection of Wellington Ave. and South 17th Street will be closed to drivers as repairs are taking place. A detour is in place for drivers there.

Also the eastbound turning lane on 1910 Eastwood Road near Sutherland Ave will be closed.

While a detour will be in place, CFPUA crews asks drivers to find an alternate route if possible, and to be alert and cautious around the work zones.

According to the release, repairs are necessary so crews improve the infrastructure to the sewer service and prevent sewer overflows.

Repairs will take place between 9am to 3pm at each location.

Bridge work on River Road on hold until June

Bridge work on River Road on hold until June

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - According to Amanda Glynn with North Carolina DOT, crews have postponed work on the bridge located on River Road in New Hanover County going over Lords Creek until June.

Work was scheduled for Monday, May, 13 through Friday, May, 17. D.O.T.Crews have to perform maintenance on the substructure of the bridge. 

According to Glynn, crews delayed construction to prevent traffic tie-ups during the school season. Anderson Elementary, Ashley High School, and Murray Middle school are all located around the area.

Glynn says the bridge is rescheduled to close sometime in June.

We will keep you posted on exactly when this closure will take place as soon as we get word.
