TRAFFIC ALERT: Lane Closures on I-40 and N.C. 133/ N.C.117 bridges

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - According to a press release from North Carolina DOT, Weather permitting, NC DOT crews will work on routine inspections on the I-40 and U.S. 117/N.C. 133 bridges over the Cape Fear River in New Hanover County on Monday, April 8 through Friday, April 12.

The inspections will require closures on the eastbound and westbound lanes on I-40 bridges and on the U.S. 177/N.C. 113 bridge between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.

Drivers should plan for extra time crossing the bridges during that week and use caution in the area.

Wilmington Downtown Inc. to host Trolley Tour of new sculptors

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Downtown Inc. will give a trolley tour of six newly installed sculptors in the downtown area on Friday, April 5. The pieces are by Wilmington Sculptor Paul Hill and Cary sculptor Phil Hathcock.

According to the press release, the tour starts at 5 pm at the Cape Fear Community College parking deck with a reception to follow with Wilmington artist Paul Hill.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at wditunveil.evenbrite.com.  All the money made will benefit the arts council.

The release also notes the sculptures will be on public display through September at: Bijou Park , 305 Chestnut Street, 6th and Castle Streets, 407 Water Street, The New Hanover County Community Center and Wilmington Chamber of Commerce.

A new round of pieces will be installed in October.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – According to a press release from the North Carolina DOT, bridge inspections will result in lane closures on  MLK Parkway/U.S. 74 bridge over Smith Creek and 23rd Street beginning Tuesday, April 2 through Friday, April 12.

 Inspections will only be done during the work week between 9:30 am to 3:30 p.m. Crews will only work on one lane at a time. Constrction will take place for the next two weeks.

Overnight lane closure on U.S. 74 West near 23rd Street

 

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The North Carolina DOT is closing down the right lane on U.S. 74 West at the bridge near 23rd Street over Smith Creek on Wednesday, March 20.

The closure begins at 9pm and will last until 2am Thursday, March 21.

 The lane closure is necessary so crews can work on maintenance for the bridge.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Lane closed overnight on US 74 near 23rd Street

 

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The North Carolina DOT is closing down the right lane on U.S. 74 West at the bridge over 23rd Street on Monday, March 18.

The closure begins at 9pm and will last until 2am Tuesday, March 19.

According to the press release, the lane closure is necessary so crews can replace a crash attenuator – a device that reduces the impact to the bridge when it is struck.

Expect bridge closures overnight for filming

Expect bridge closures overnight for filming

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Just a remdiner...the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is expected to have intermittent overnight closures this weekend while film crews work in the area.

Weather permitting, the bridge will close for no more than five minutes at a time Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 from 7 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., according to a press release from the NCDOT.

Drivers should plan for extra time crossing the bridge during those nights and use caution in the area.
