TRAFFIC ALERT: Overnight lane closures on Cape Fear Memorial Bridge

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is expected to have overnight lane closures on Sunday, March, 24 through Wednesday,March 27.  North Carolina DOT crews will work on the bridge deck causing the East and Westbound lanes to close.  

The closures will take place from 9pm to 5am each night until Wednesday, March 27.

Plan extra time to cross the bridge or use the Isabel Holmes Bridge as your alternative route.

Stormwater Project completed at Walnut and Front streets

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - City Crews completed the stormwater project at the Intersection of Walnut and Front Streets in Wilmington. The intersection re-opened Wednesday, March, 6.

According to the City of Wilmington’s website, the project involved replacing underground drainage systems to protect Front Street from cave-ins during heavy rain storms.  

The final step is to add a crosswalk at the intersection during the week of March 11.

TRAFFIC ALERT: One lane closed on Princess Place Dr.

 

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - One lane on the 1700 block of Princess Place Drive will be closed on Monday, March, 4 and Tuesday March 5. This closure will take place 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m each day.  

City crews are removing some of the trees in the area. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic while work is taking place.

Portions of 23rd Street will be closed for sewer repairs

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Crews of  the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will be working on a leaking water and sewer line on 23rd street on Thursday, Feb.21.

All lanes will be closed to traffic between Princess Place Drive and Chestnut Street from 9 am to 3 pm. Residents along the road will have access to 23rd street.

Watch out for delays during this time.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Overnight lane closure on Market Street

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT)  - The North Carolina DOT will shut down the North and Southbound lanes on Market Street on Thursday, Feb.21 through Friday, Feb. 22 .The closure will take place overnight Thursday into Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Bridge Maintenance crews are working on the Pedestrian walk way at New Hanover High School crossing over Market Street.

Expect delays if you plan to travel along Market St. during those times.

Learn to fly at Cape Fear Community College

Learn to fly at Cape Fear Community College

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Cape Fear Community College will be offering a ground school for anyone interested in a Private Pilot License.

This class is required to take the FAA Test. Registration for this class is Monday, March, 18 from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm.  

This course is 72 hours and will be offered Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30pm to 10pm. Classes will be held at the Cape Fear’s North Campus.

NC State Ports Authority appoints acting executive director

Jeff Miles is the new head of the authority, effective immediately.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – The N.C. State Ports Authority named a new acting executive director, less than a week after the interim had stepped down.

Jeff Miles is the new head of the authority, effective immediately.

According to a press release, Miles brings to the job more than 20 years of experience as a senior-level manager in the port and maritime transportation industry.

"We are fortunate to have someone with the industry experience that Jeff brings to the job. His extensive experience in the maritime transportation industry uniquely qualifies him to lead this dynamic organization," said N.C. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Tata.

Miles will lead an organization of nearly 250 employees that contributes $500 million annually in state and local tax revenue and supports more than 65,000 direct and indirect jobs statewide.
