TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Repairs to be made along Princess Place Drive

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Crews will be making improvements to a sewer main the 2400 to 2600 block of Princess Place Drive starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from Cape Fear Public Utility Authority officials.

Officials say traffic flow will be maintained on Princess Place Drive in both directions, but the intersections of 25th and 26th streets will be closed intermittently as a result of the changes being made. Those traveling north on 25th and 26th streets won’t be able to access or go through Princess Place Drive.

Motorists will need to find alternate routes to go around the work area.

The repairs are expected to be finished by sometime early next week.

New Hanover, Bladen counties top AAA lists for accidents

NEW HANOVER and BLADEN COUNTIES, NC (WECT) - AAA Carolinas has released new traffic data on traffic crashes for the state, based on data from 2011.

Once again, New Hanover County is in the top five most dangerous counties for car accidents. New Hanover also checked in as the second most likely county to be involved in a traffic accident, as well as the second most likely county that folks are likely to be injured in a car accident.

Manhole installation planned at Market, 3rd Street intersection

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A portion of the Market and Third Street intersection will be closed until Friday while a large manhole is installed, according to City of Wilmington spokesperson Malissa Talbert.

The second phase of work will be from July 31 through Aug. 3, which will involved traffic detours.

Traffic coming into downtown Wilmington will not be able to cross or turn on Third Street, but will be able to access Third Street at any other intersection, Talbert said. The official detour will take drivers from Market Street on 17th Street and then Chestnut Street to Third Street.

Portion of S. 16th Street closed Thursday for water leak

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A water leak will be repaired in the 600 block of South 16th Street on Thursday, which will close a portion of the road between Queen and Castle streets, according to CFPUA officials.

The work will begin at 9 a.m. and should be done by 3 p.m.

The outer southbound lane of South 16th Street will be closed to accommodate the work.

Part of River Road to close Tuesday night

Part of River Road to close Tuesday night

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Part of River Road will close Tuesday night.

Crews with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will install sewer pipes between Independence Boulevard and CFPUA’s wastewater treatment plant, according to a news release. The construction is part of the ongoing Barnard’s Creek sewer improvement project.

The road will be closed starting at 7 p.m. Crews plan to reopen the road early Wednesday morning.

Traffic briefly tied up due to accident at Oleander Drive, Country Club Road

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A car accident at the intersection of Oleander Drive and Country Club Road tied up traffic briefly Tuesday morning.

According to witnesses at the scene, both of the passengers involved in the accident were taken to the hospital but appeared to be OK.
