The work is expected to be completed by 4 p.m. the same day.

Parts of Orange, Second streets closed on Tuesday; boil water advisory to be issued

Parts of Orange, Second streets closed on Tuesday; boil water advisory to be issued

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – CFPUA crews will close the intersection of Orange and Second streets and customers will be urged to boil their water on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Permanent repairs to a portion of water main will be made between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to a news release from CFPUA. During that time, all traffic will be detoured around the intersection and a precautionary boil water advisory will be in effect. Customers living in the 100 through 300 blocks of South Second Street, the 100 through 300 blocks of Orange Street and the 300 block of South Third Street are included in the boil water advisory.

Periods of low or no water pressure can increase the potential for back siphonage, which introduces bacteria into the water system. CFPUA advises that when water is restored, residents should vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking, cooking, making ice, preparing food, washing hands and any other means of consumption.
